World's Largest Wooden Sailing Vessel Makes Singapore Its Home Port
Chinese businessmen built the world's largest seafaring wooden sailing ship and made the local area their home port. They later planned to rent it out and hold exhibitions to share Chinese culture.
The "Fu Ning" was built with wood using traditional Chinese "watertight bulkhead" technology and is 41.6 meters long. Chinese businessman Lin Changjiu invested in the construction of this "antique large Fuzhou ship" out of his passion for sailing and love for Chinese culture.
The person in charge said that Lin Changjiu started his journey to Southeast Asia in order to commemorate the story of Zheng He, a famous Chinese navigator, and to trace the path his ancestors had taken.

The Fu Ning will then sail to Malacca, Malaysia, for some cultural exchanges before returning to Singapore. The person in charge revealed that the ship will focus on business operations and plans to hold exhibitions on board to display Chinese cultural artworks and share Chinese history and culture with the world.
The team will also consider renting out the Fu Ning, but will make a decision based on business yacht regulations and market demand. The person in charge said that as an international port facing the world, setting Singapore as the home port can better promote Chinese culture. At the same time, there are also professional sailors and technicians in the local area who can maintain the ships. The Fu Ning is made of mahogany, and the floor of the ship is also made of wood. The person in charge shared that most modern ships are made of steel, and the wood on the Fu Ning is the most difficult to maintain. Due to the hot and humid local weather, daily maintenance is very important when the ship is docked in Singapore.
