World's Largest Traditional Chinese Wooden Sailing Ship, 'Fu Ning', Docks at Melaka Port

KUALA LUMPUR: The world's largest traditional Chinese wooden sailing ship, 'Fu Ning', docked at the Jetty of Tanjung Bruas Port, Melaka on May 1.

The ship, which embarked on its journey from Huangpu in Guangzhou, China, on Jan 31, will be berthed in the waters of Melaka for seven days starting from its arrival.

According to Tourism Melaka, Fu Ning aims to follow Admiral Cheng Ho's historic voyages along the Jalan Sutera Maritim, honouring his legacy and fostering cultural exchange with countries along its journey.

The ship, measuring 41.6 metres in length, 12 metres in width, and with a main mast height of 29 metres, can accommodate up to 42 people at one time.

Previously, Fu Ning docked at One15 Marina, Sentosa Cove, Singapore, before arriving in Melaka.

The ship is built with traditional craftsmanship using teak and rosewood, and boasts a 300kWh onboard power bank, providing the vessel's electrical needs for a day on a single charge.

This ancient technique, originating from Fuzhou in Fujian province, has been inscribed on Unesco's List of Intangible Cultural Heritage in Need of Urgent Safeguarding since 2010.
