Mr Lin Chang Jiu
The vessel, measuring 41.6 meters in length and 12 meters in width, stands as a testament to the dedication and craftsmanship of its creators, led by Mr. Lin Chang Jiu. Mr. Lin's vision, rooted in a desire to showcase the artistry and allure of traditional Hokkien boat building from Ningde, China, led to the inception of Fu Ning in 2015. Completed in 2019, Fu Ning is now the largest sea-going traditional Hokkien wooden sailing boat globally.
Dating back to the Ming Dynasty, Fukien sailboats have been central to China's naval operations, international diplomacy, and economic endeavours, recognized for their robust design and advanced features. These vessels served as both formidable warships and dependable transport ships, playing a pivotal role in diplomatic and cultural exchanges, particularly between China and the Ryukyus throughout the Ming and Qing Dynasties.
Fu Ning will embark on a series of cultural activities across Southeast Asia. Through these engagements, the vessel will serve as a symbolic bridge, facilitating a deeper understanding of China's historical maritime prowess and its enduring contributions to oceanic exploration.
With aspirations to honor the achievements of Admiral Cheng Ho and retrace the ports along the Maritime Silk Road, Mr. Lin Chang Jiu envisions Fu Ning as a vessel of historical significance. He aims to establish Singapore as the home port of Fu Ning, further cementing the city-state's position as a beacon of maritime heritage and cultural exchange in the region.
